Trauma therapist in Houston, TX and online
HELPING others bring balance back into LIFE.

As a member of the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities, I am deeply committed to serving clients who may share similar backgrounds and experiences as mine.
As a therapist at In Vivo, I am passionate about the work I do. Having experienced my own share of trauma, I understand the courage, persistence, and patience required for change. I believe we are not defined by our life experiences, rather we define them. Each experience we have is an invitation to open our hearts wider, uncover more of what lives within us, and choose how we want to show up.

Helping you RECLAIM your peace and power over your life.
Hi, I’m Lorenzo McFarland, LMSW. I specialize in working with BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals who are carrying the burdens of depression, anxiety, anger, and trauma. Whether your pain stems from childhood wounds, religious harm, rejection, systemic oppression, or the intersection of your identities, I want you to know that your experiences are valid, and your healing is possible.

I am deeply committed to supporting BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ clients who may have walked similar paths, faced similar struggles, and long for a space where they can be fully seen, heard, and valued.

As a Black gay man raised in the South and a Veteran with 20 years of military service, I know firsthand the weight of navigating spaces that weren’t built with us in mind. The pressure to conform, to suppress parts of yourself just to survive, can be overwhelming. Maybe you’ve been told to "push through" or "be strong" when what you really needed was space to breathe, to grieve, to heal. The truth is, healing doesn’t come from shrinking yourself—it comes from reclaiming who you are and standing fully in your truth.
My approach is compassionate, nonjudgmental, and rooted in evidence-based techniques that actually work. I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help you explore the different parts of yourself—especially the ones that have been silenced, shamed, or ignored—so that you can move toward healing with self-compassion. I also integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you recognize and reframe the thoughts and patterns that no longer serve you. Together, we will create a path forward that feels safe, empowering, and uniquely yours.
You don’t have to keep carrying the weight of survival alone.
I know that asking for help can be difficult, especially when you've spent so much time being strong for others. But you deserve a space where you can be seen, heard, and understood without judgment. You deserve a life where your past doesn’t dictate your future. You deserve to heal.
